Came across something that it reminded me of Alexander McQueen’s (RIP, fashion genius) amazing yet crazy shoes. How anyone even walks in them astounds me…
“Scary Beautiful”: a pair of shoes created by Leanie van der Vyver (artist) and Rene van den Berg (shoe designer). Perhaps more scary than beautiful, this pair of reverse stilettos requires the wearer to rest on their shins rather than their heel, contorting their body. They were created in order to challenge the perception of traditional beauty and the lengths that people would go to in order to reach this ‘ideal’.
Leather envelopes the outer body of each shoe, while the insides are lined with soft leather that covers a supporting layer of orthopaedic memory foam.
Humans are playing God by physically and metaphorically perfecting themselves. Beauty is currently at an all time climax, allowing this project to explore what lies beyond perfection – Leanie van der Vyer.
