When you say “sustainability”, normally one of these three things pop to mind:
- Buzzword. A word thrown around without any real backing, just to be a part of the “green trend”.
- Tree Hugger. We’ve all come across these people. The hippies that no one can really relate to.
- Guilt/Deflection. The problem’s too big to fix to make a difference. Someone else will do it.
As a result of this, it seems to have gotten a rather bad rep in society. As part of OpenIDEO’s Community Backed Project, we started Refuture – a platform that helps people to rethink sustainability with the aim to make it mainstream.
We crowdfunded it on Indiegogo and successfully reached our goal (yay) so I’ve been making the campaign perks over the past couple of months.
Here’s a sneak peek of two of them…
Mystery Box of China: There are so many weird and wonderful things here and we wanted to share the experience with the rest of the world. Think ancient comic books, funny Chinglish purses, bottled Shanghai air, captioned photo collections, odd news & stories, strange things found on Taobao (aka. Chinese eBay), and last but definitely not least…breastmilk Hello Kitty soap.
Hand-Drawn Names: I created a series of hand-drawn names especially for the Refuture supporters (adults, children and even dogs) to be mailed directly to their doorstep. Hopefully a nice change from advertising flyers and unpaid bills.
It’s been a fun ride! Follow our Facebook or Twitter for updates.
