Starbucks Art

November 11, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

This is what happens when you leave an artist in Starbucks with a pen in hand... Starbucks. Avid coffee-lovers always insist that the coffee there really isn't that great, but once the green and white logo is spotted, everyone always seems to pop in anyway. Through her illustrations, it is quite clear that Japanese artist Tomoko Shintani is quite the Starbucks fan. She managed to merge . . .

November 10, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

There's been plenty of marketing collateral around the place, taking full advantage of the war beween Obama and Romney. This one made by Durex China definitely takes the cake though... Well done Obama. via Design Taxi . . .

Calm in the Storm

November 2, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

First one home on a Friday night. Nothing to complain about, I've had my vodka lime soda, antipasto and a cheese platter. Between work, the big boss visiting Shanghai from Australia, a board game night, company dinners, the boyfriend's birthday, minor house redecorating and a new housemate, there's hardly been a moment to breathe this week. A flurry of good food and way too much enjoyment. Now for . . .

Sushi Giants

October 27, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I seriously need to get myself to this place. Pronto. Umewaka. A sushi restaurant in Nagoya, Japan that is known to create insanely large sushi. The super-sized Anago sushi uses several slabs of eel fillets and could feed 6-8 sushi lovers. This is not a solitary sushi, feeling lonely in its giant-sushi world. You could also get order the 6kg jumbo Futomaki roll stuffed with 20 types of raw fish . . .

Apple the Apples

October 20, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

You might remember the Apple Pie that was featured awhile ago. Well, there has been yet another Apple occurrence, this time created by an unnamed Japanese Fuji apple orchard owner. This is it... How did he do this? The Fuji apple man designed special 'tan-toos' that prevented the stencilled areas from ripening as fast as the rest of the apple, thus creating the Apple-ised apples. Sometimes I . . .

Red Bull Spacejump

October 20, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

"Red Bull gives you wings" - in this case, it most certainly does. Forget football games or NASCAR races, Red Bull decides to sponsor a skydive...from space. To think that I was excited when I found out Virgin was giving out a trip to space as part of their frequent flyers program (actually, that's still quite exciting). This seems like insanity. Last Sunday, over 8 million people tuned into . . .

Google Me

October 19, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

We all know that Google processes huge amounts of data, including three billion search queries a day and 72 hours of YouTube videos a minute. Ever wonder where all the magic is done? The Internet giant just recently shared these previously-unseen images of its data centres around the . . .
