Ippo, the Italian Zonkey

February 24, 2014 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Yes, Zonkey: a rare crossbreed between a zebra and a donkey.

This particular one was born in Italy last year, the only one of her kind in the country. News coming a little late I know…but news that must be shared. Martin the Zebra had a strange love for Giada the donkey next to his enclosure and jumped the fence to get closer – the result was an awkwardly adorable zonkey called Ippo.

Too cute. Many clearly agree as the owners have received many requests for rights over his image, including one from a soft-toy company and another from Disney to make a cartoon.

According to SMH: “Ippo is officially a “zebroid” – the name for a cross between a zebra and any other equine. “Zorse” is the name of a pairing with a horse, “zebrule” with a mule. The zebra-donkey mix is also sometimes known as a “zedonk”.”

I still prefer Zonkey.
