Came across it the UNICEF Tap Project yesterday and thought it was really cool so just wanted to share…
I know that everyone’s most probably addicted to your phones and all things tech, but perhaps you can step away for a couple of minutes for a good cause – for every 10 minutes that a person does not touch their phone, UNICEF’s partners will donate one day of water to children in need.
You’ll just need to access the UNICEF Tap Project on your phone, and put it down somewhere – the site detects whether it’s moving or is steady to see if it is being used. A ticking clock begins and all these facts and stats pop up. Perhaps it’s just me but it’s pretty exciting when you see how much water you’ve ‘given’ over a period of time.
This project has been around for about 8 years now and seeks to bring clean water to the 768 million people around the globe who go without it. You can read more about it here, and make donations on the site as well if you’d like.
“With just $5, UNICEF can give one child safe drinking water for 200 days. Since 1990, more than 2.1 billion people have gained access to clean drinking water thanks to the work of UNICEF and its partners.”
Do you need a better reason for that digital detox? Hurry up and get off those phones now!
