White Is My Colour

September 2, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

My colour explosion on Instagram, showcasing inspiration revolving around a single colour. WHITE. Featuring: Bridget Bodenham | Sandy Jane Nixon | Concrete Geometric | Teresa Segovia | Hermann Försterling | Kirill | Ryan Romanes | Gioia Giustino | Jesuso Ortiz . . .

Trash, Debris & Rubbish

September 1, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Philip Karlberg is a Swedish still life photographer who often finds his inspiration in nature. Karlberg collects trash whenever he can and attempts to clean up even the most remote of places. This sparked the inspiration for this new series titled “Debris”, where he stylistically put together his finds and shot these still lifes in his studio. "His photos are characterized by a pristine, . . .

Fruit Rainbows

July 27, 2015 By Shermaine 2 Comments

Okay, who of you knew that bananas could ever look like this? I am a fan of the banana (no sexual innuendo intended) and have one for breakfast each day - and even I had not seen it in its full potential. Romanian artist Dan Cretu takes the ripe fruit and carves patterns through its skin, the paints them to give each one its one unique character and personality. . . .

In His Words

July 14, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Didn't exactly think that I'd be quoting Mark Zuckerberg, but I do like his definition of happiness. "To me, happiness is doing something meaningful that helps people and that I believe in with people I love. I think lots of people confuse happiness with fun. I don't believe it is possible to have fun every day. But I do believe it is possible to do something meaningful that helps people every . . .

Candid Snaps

May 8, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I hate to be stereotypical and post about the MET Gala, but I came across these candid shots and just wanted to share. These are much better than the entire range of posed shots seen around the place [bends the elbow, puts hand to waist]. Random note, Rihanna's dress is insane. And not in a good way. DRIFT With Me

May 4, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Spotted this gem this morning - minimalistic perfection. Amongst the charming galleries, live music and a delicious foodie scene of San Jose del Cabo’s Historic Art District sits DRIFT, a boutique hotel aimed for young independent travelers. Inspired by “traveling without a destination”, it is a simple accommodation with a social atmosphere. "It is the prototype for a series of hotels that . . .

A Trip to Almost Paris

April 30, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I have a confession. I have been a terrible blogger. Disappearing for months without a word - shock horror. If I ever go missing again and you miss me a little (I think too highly of myself), do check out my Instagram for some art, design and fashion pictures I spot around the place. So where have I been for the last couple of months? My roles and responsibilities at work got bumped up . . .

Hugs for All

February 26, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

It's always hard to come back to the office after 9 days of holidaying and sunshine. But then again, who am I to complain...who even gets week-long public holidays besides China? All say hoorah to Chinese New Year. I am now a very dark shade of brown; much healthier than pasty yellow though I must say! Winter doesn't do wonders for one's skin. Anyway, to the fun stuff...Someone told me about . . .

Letters that Pop

February 4, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Having a personal interest in hand-lettering, I flip through a whole lot of stuff on a daily basis. This particular one caught my attention today - Turkish graphic designer and electrical engineer Tolga Girgin experiments with calligraphy, making the letters seem to pop off the page. Through shading, shadows and different forms of perspective, they're given a new kind of life on the page. Really . . .

Florals & Fashion

January 18, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

There have been great things coming out of Australia these days - admittedly, I get a little flutter of excitement whenever I see that something's from Australia. Call it pride or perhaps surprise, I'm not sure which. Being so far away from the rest of the world with a relatively small population (Shanghai has the same population as the whole of Australia), we don't normally have much news coming . . .
