Ceramic Hounds

February 25, 2017 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

If you're looking for a new pot for your plant, look no further than these adorable handmade ceramic dogs. They also double as pin cushions, cups, salt and pepper shakers, and toothpick holders. They're created by Eleonor Bostrom, a Swedish ceramic artist who splits her time between Stockholm and San Francisco. Her speciality is creating sculptures with function, just like these dogs that add a . . .

Clever Urban Art

January 9, 2017 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I always feel a sense of happiness whenever I read about any cool news coming out of Australia. I know we are a massive country size-wise, but it doesn't really seem like much news seems to spurt out from beyond our oceans. The ones that do get spread revolve around the occasional shark attack (understatement), people drunkenly pulling off their pants in public, and how can we forget...the video . . .

The Most Beautiful Game

November 12, 2016 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I just stumbled across Samorost 3 and it's hands-down the most beautiful game I've ever come across. Okay, I don't exactly play many games at all - but every new scene and world provide you with some serious visual eyecandy. Samarost 3 is a puzzle point-and-click adventure game developed by Amanita Design, starring a small, white-clad humanoid with a little cap and brown boots. Each character . . .

Elf on the Shelf

December 21, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

IT'S CHRISTMAS WEEK! DAY 1/7 I take this time of year very seriously. Appropriate attire and behaviours include reindeer ears, whistling of Christmas tunes, festive socks, decorative baubles on desks, ugly sweaters, and most importantly - smiles on faces. My poor colleagues have been dealing with endless Christmas music blasting from my speakers. There will be one Christmas-related post for . . .

Drawing Connections

December 6, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Drawing: 1. a graphic representation by lines of an object or idea (i.e. drawing a dog) 2. to deduce; infer (i.e. drawing a conclusion). Okay, a pun is clearly ineffective if it requires explanation. That's why I'm leaving the task to expert-punner Jaco Haasbroek, a freelance illustrator and designer based in Cape Town, South Africa. I love this series titled "Food, Object or Animal", . . .

Quintuple Colouration

November 28, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Although my wardrobe consists of every shade of black, my eyes seem to hover every time I see a burst of colour in a brand's identity. Here's some letterpress goodness from Don't Try Studio. "Though they are 5-color letterpressed, white-foiled, and triplexed, Designer Quentin Monge’s playful, self-promotional business cards still don’t appear to be trying too hard." — KELLY CREE Via Under . . .

Paper Art Magic

November 26, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

If you're talking about dedication to one's craft...Calvin Nicholls is your man. Some of his pieces can take a couple of weeks to create, and the more elaborate pieces sometimes take a year to complete! This amazingly detailed work is carefully formed from an initial hand-drawn template, with the haut-relief effect being achieved through a meticulous process involving X-ACTO knives, . . .

Scrabble Typography

November 24, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Being a fan of both Scrabble and Typography, I've gotten a bit obsessed with this new edition of the game. Andrew Capener has selected 12 great new fonts for the letters to be featured on the solid wood Scrabble tiles. Who else wants to get their hands on a set? Via Toyland . . .

Mirrored Geometry

November 9, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Witchoria (aka. Brooklyn-based graphic designer Victoria Siemer) created a series of photographs which blends geometric shapes into natural landscapes to produce fragmented reflections within each image. The lines between reality and fiction are blurred as the elements start to blend into each other. A beauty that is created based on nature and the constructs of photo manipulation . . .
