Five Days
Not only did I get a wonderful 2 weeks back in Perth (my hometown, for those unaware) - I now have 5 days off to do absolutely nothing. Bless China and their many public holidays. Perth was a colourful burst of comfort, catch-ups, friends and family. Having enough of food restrictions in Shanghai due to food scandals and bird flu outbreaks, I ate everything and anything that came my way. I mean . . .
Time for Fireworks
CHINESE NEW YEAR. That time of year has come around again. When family reunites, the feasting never ends, houses turn into gambling dens, there are flashes of red and gold everywhere, mandarins are passed around, the same way-too-happy songs are played, lion dancers prance about, and red packets are received from all directions. The last few days have been a burst of excitement for three primary reasons: 1. My first week-long public holiday - bliss! There seemed to be a China swap where all the city-dwellers went travelling and the country-folk all came to Shanghai. Masses and masses of them.
