Be My Valentine

January 20, 2014 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I have a friend who used to model in Shanghai, and there was one thing that people used to always ask her to do that confused her. "Act sexy, but cute." I never really understood it either...until I saw this shoot. Valentine lingerie is the brainchild of Whitney Brown and Paloma Jonas, two former models, who bonded over creating something that was lacking in the fashion industry. Aimed . . .

January 17, 2014 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

If you'd like to add some happy to your Instagram feed, add @cintascotch. He's been on my feed for quite a while now and certainly has that effect on me, so just wanted to share the love. Ecuador-based illustrator Javier Pérez came up with an illustrated series called ‘Instagram Experiments’, where he uses everyday household objects and turns them into clever, whimsical illustrations. Check out . . .

Igloo Lust

January 16, 2014 By Shermaine 2 Comments

I'm in love with an igloo. Words I never thought would leave my mouth. The Igloo Village of Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland has 20 thermal glass igloos, where visitors can enjoy incredible views of the Aurora Borealis from the warmth and comfort of their own hut. This place has one of the Arctic Circle’s best views of the lit sky with its sparse trees and complete lack of light pollution, . . .

Bald Guy Laughs

January 15, 2014 By Shermaine 2 Comments

An SMS or Whatsapp message perhaps, for the special friends. Call me nostalgic, but I've always been a strong advocate for handwritten cards and the sending of snail mail. How long has it been since you last went to . . .

Christmas Time

December 25, 2013 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR! Just to add to the many millions of those wishing you happy things...May you have a wonderful Christmas full of feasting and plenty of joyful thoughts. This is my favourite time of the year. You can't help but smile everywhere you go. Hope that I haven't looked too maniacal to those around me but really, how can you help it? My apologies for the brief hiatus before . . .

Whimsical Treats

November 28, 2013 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Andy Warhol. We all know him for his Campbell soup cans & pop art but I'm discovering some of his other works little by little.  Am particularly taken by my most recent discovery – these sweet illustrations of cakes: These drawings by Warhol and recipes by his friend Suzie Frankfurt were a whimsical take on the haute cuisine cookbooks of the 1950s. The book never quite took off in . . .

Epic Split

November 26, 2013 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

This truly is epic - watch Jean-Claude Van Damme carry out his famous split between two reversing trucks. Possibly the best possible live test to demonstrate the precision and directional stability of Volvo Dynamic Steering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7FIvfx5J10 50 million hits! . . .
