Marathon Craziness

October 2, 2012 By Shermaine 2 Comments

There really isn't very much that can make you feel lazier about lazing around in bed on a Tuesday afternoon than this: Say hello to Fauja Singh. He is currently 101 years old and is officially the world's oldest marathon runner. He has retired from marathons however, probably felt a little lost without the feel of the wind on his crazy long beard and decided to run in a 5k race last Sunday. . . .

Cartridge Blowing

September 29, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

This is a little geeky but do you remember the days of the old school Nintentos, Sega Megadrives, Game Boys and whatever other console game there was? Whenever the game didn't load, we would all know the magic trick: blow on the cartridge and try again. This was never questioned. It was just done (and done and done till it worked), and always achieved successful results. I am about to shatter . . .

Good Catches

September 29, 2012 By Shermaine 2 Comments

No, I did not go fishing on my week off. I am unsure of whether it is even possible to catch (edible) fish in Shanghai. By good catches*, I am simply referring to my net of Perth people that I just put up in my 'study' today. Just note that my study is really just a wooden desk on a slightly elevated area in my room. Just like my 'room' in Sydney was really just a little section of the living . . .

Strange(r) Art

September 26, 2012 By Shermaine 2 Comments

Stumbled across this new artsy tidbit and I must say, I kinda love it. Perhaps you're wondering why there's a picture of a man smiling jovially as he does his gardening on your screen. Washington DC artist, Nicole Bourgea is an expressionist painter known for her life-sized portraits which are usually sold at $4000 a pop. As a little act of community service (or self-promotion, cynics might . . .

Crossroads

September 26, 2012 By Shermaine 2 Comments

So here I am, unemployed again...for the next 1.5 weeks at least. I was happily working at Auditoire when I got another job offer. That's where the dilemmas all started. How do you choose between two good opportunities? First world problems - it should be enough to have those opportunities, some might say. I have no clue how this even came about when I was whinging about my career prospects in . . .

Hidden Ostrich

September 23, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Finally, something that we’ve all been waiting for… Spain and Switzerland-based studio Kawamura Ganjavian created this squishy headgear called the ‘Ostrich Pillow’. With it’s padded sides, covered eyes and ears, and cosy space for your cold hands; it’s the perfect solution for when you want to take a nap. Okay, enough advertising. I do admit that it seems quite comfortable, but it just . . .

Cute Kitty

September 21, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Whenever I say the word kitty, Sheldon's song automatically pops into my head: Soft kitty, Warm kitty, Little ball of fur. Happy kitty, Sleepy kitty, Purr Purr Purr... Not. Good. (Like I said previously, too much Big Bang Theory). Anyway. There's always the dog-people and the cat-people. I've always been a loyal dog lover but when I saw this, my heart couldn't help but melt a little. How could . . .

Couture Feast

September 20, 2012 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

We've always been told not to play with our food - or perhaps in this case, not to wear our food. Fulvio Bonavia created a series of edible dresses in collaboration with stylist Giovanna Battaglia, which was featured in Garage Magazine's debut edition. Guess what they're made of... PRADA ALEXANDER MCQUEEN MONCLER LOUIS VUITTON Prada = citrus Alexander McQueen = lettuce Moncler = . . .

Geeky Pie

September 20, 2012 By Shermaine 3 Comments

An apple pie that I should really try to bake sometime. Brings out a whole new level of Apple nerdism. This is my tribute to the iPhone 5. . . .
