It's always hard to come back to the office after 9 days of holidaying and sunshine. But then again, who am I to complain...who even gets week-long public holidays besides China? All say hoorah to Chinese New Year. I am now a very dark shade of brown; much healthier than pasty yellow though I must say! Winter doesn't do wonders for one's skin. Anyway, to the fun stuff...Someone told me about . . .
Letters that Pop
Having a personal interest in hand-lettering, I flip through a whole lot of stuff on a daily basis. This particular one caught my attention today - Turkish graphic designer and electrical engineer Tolga Girgin experiments with calligraphy, making the letters seem to pop off the page. Through shading, shadows and different forms of perspective, they're given a new kind of life on the page. Really . . .
Plants with Pants
If the title itself has not yet caught your attention, check this out. Yes, literally. Plants with pants. I'm loving this new form of flowerpot, perhaps because it houses my favourite green - the cactus. No longer spend long days in the office feeling lonely and place one of these cool dudes on your desk. By Matteo Cibic, see more great products at his store. via Visual . . .
Collab#1 by Now&Them
Where have the last two months disappeared to? Collab#1 by Now&Them. "What?" you say. Our communications agency Paper Stone Scissors started a platform called Now&Them, celebrating creativity in society. We launched with an event called Collab#1 - an exhibition that encourages collaboration across multiple industries. Furniture Designer x Chocolate Factory, Graffiti Artist x Skull . . .
Print Lives On
We now live in a time where the moment there is a glimmer of uncertainty, we just "Google it". You've all had that situation when someone on the table says something completely absurd and you're unsure whether to be impressed about their knowledge or say that they are wrong. In previous times, perhaps they were given the benefit of the doubt and we let it slide, but these days there's always that . . .
Beauty in Darkness
"Guess who's back, back again. Shady's back, tell a friend. Guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back, guess who's back..." *music plays in the background* Yes, I'm back from my brief hiatus (with a massive tan) - adventured around Turkey & Greece for the past few weeks, which was more amazing than I could've imagined with each city being so . . .
Porcelain Creations
Finding a little gem that hasn't been yet been plastered across sites such as DesignTaxi or Colossal must be one of my favourite things ever. Reminds me of when you were a child sifting through sand on the beach and you spot that one perfect seashell. Through some Instagram stalking, stumbled across Pilar Rojas, a designer of porcelain objects and jewellery. Her photos are really lovely and her . . .
Ceramic Scribbles
This series of tableware would definitely be on my wishlist if I wasn't still skipping my way across the world every couple of years. David Shrigley, Turner prize nominated and Fourth Plinth commissioned British artist, designed his first ceramics collection for the Gallery at Sketch in London as part of the restaurant's program of artist collaborations. "I'm delighted to be working . . .
EXTREM Packaging
Imagine if you're in the meat section of your supermarket and amongst all the soggy plastic-wrapped items you spot this… In our world of clutter and craziness, great packaging seems to make all the difference. Agriculturas Diversas needed prestigious new packaging for their top-range product EXTREM, a new brand of Iberian acorn-fed ham, to be sold in gourmet shops and given away to friends . . .
Colour a Rainbow
I'm not sure how many occasions would require you to use a pencil these days, but in the case that you still do...please consider these: The GIF is strangely mesmerising - what happy-fying stationery. via The Colossal Shop . . .
