Blur of Lights & Colour

October 18, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

I do enjoy living Shanghai. Well, for the most part at least... Just the other week, I tried to catch a taxi on a Friday night (quite a feat) - finally flagged one down and an elderly lady rushed ahead of me. I politely told her that I was actually standing there first, and she looked at me and yelled "but I have children!" and proceeded to slam the door in my face. Just note that her children . . .

Art on Chocolate

How many of you buy products that have great packaging, despite whether or not you know anything about it? I'm putting my hand up in agreeance to that. UNELEFANTE is a gift shop with a team that includes a tea sommelier, a botanist and a poet. With this eclectic and certainly unique team, they strive to "transform the ordinary into extraordinary experiences" with a variety of whimsical items . . .

Adding Fun through Colours

October 8, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Being the first day back from our week-long public holiday (I love China!), we definitely needed some colour in our day. ...and I certainly found it when I came across the rebranding of London-based design agency Dalziel&Pow. Their logo was first created 15 years ago and it was finally time for a fresh new look, so they made it all about bright colours, patterns, and expressive . . .

Triangular Entertainment

October 5, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Triangles are synonymous with Toblerone when it comes to confectionery. Using the knowledge of this iconic shape, Artistic director Maxime Damo and copywriter Gilles André created a series of four prints using the headline “the main piece of your films”. Can you guess which movies these posters are portraying?   [Answers in white, highlight for a sneak peek] - Titanic, Taxi . . .

London Through A Lens

September 30, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

You often see images of London in all its glory - the big ben, London eye, Buckingham Palace, the red buses, and those London guards who don't seem to bat an eyelid. Viorel Popescu takes another view of the city, one that is authentic and shows a different side to it. Shooting from a different perspective with his handheld camera or iPhone 3GS, his images show his passion for life and . . .

Hip Hop Dudes

September 21, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

These little guys are so great. Created by graphic design studio FOREAL and inspired by hiphop culture, their hairstyles and styles are reminiscent of the rappers across a range of different eras. They bring back memories of the days when I was driving around in my yellow Celica with blonde streaks in my hair, blasting R&B and hiphop from burnt CDs. A time . . .

The Nail House

September 17, 2015 By Shermaine Leave a Comment

Being in Shanghai, you see things that you never thought you would. You hear about stories that are way too close for comfort. I mean...we recently had a food scandal where they found that people were distributing millions of dollars worth of meat from the 1970s. Read here if you don't believe me. They can fake eggs, watermelons explode, and we have dead pigs floating down the river - but all . . .
